New Delhi: Four Indian students were injured in a knife attack at a university hostel in Ufa, in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, the Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed on Thursday.
The
incident reportedly took place at a sports hall inside a foreign students’
hostel linked to a state medical university. Local media said several people
were injured, including two police officers who were attacked while trying to
arrest the suspect.
The
Indian Embassy said it is in close contact with Russian authorities and that
officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan are travelling to Ufa to assist
the injured students.
According to
preliminary reports, a teenager armed with a knife carried out the attack. One
suspect, reportedly a 15-year-old, has been hospitalised in serious condition,
while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
