India’s Neeraj Chopra breaks 90-meter barrier, secures second place in Doha Diamond League

India's Neeraj Chopra made history on Friday evening at the Doha Diamond League 2025 by surpassing the elusive 90-meter mark in the men's javelin throw for the first time in his career.

Chopra achieved a personal best throw of 90.23 meters, becoming only the 25th athlete in history to break this prestigious barrier. However, despite this significant milestone, Chopra finished in second place, as Germany's Julian Weber captured the spotlight with a winning throw of 91.06 meters.

Competing at the Qatar Sports Club Stadium, Neeraj started strong with an impressive throw of 88.44 meters in his opening attempt, immediately placing him in the lead. Although his second attempt resulted in a foul, he rebounded with a remarkable third throw, launching the javelin to an astounding distance of 90.23 meters.

This achievement not only marked a career-best for Chopra but also secured his place in the elite 90-meter club, a benchmark regarded as the gold standard in javelin throwing.
