Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has announced that 156 public parks across the country will be activated for Qatar National Sports Day, offering residents and visitors a wide range of spaces to take part in physical activities and wellness programmes.
In
a statement shared on Monday via its official social media platforms, the
ministry said the selected parks are fully prepared to welcome the public,
highlighting the availability of modern facilities designed to encourage
movement and outdoor exercise. These include air-conditioned walking and
jogging tracks, outdoor fitness equipment, and contemporary play areas for
children.
Parks
located in various neighbourhoods, from Umm Al Seneem to Rawdat Al Khail, have
been included in the initiative, ensuring broad geographic coverage and easy
access for communities across Qatar. The move reflects ongoing efforts to
promote healthy lifestyles by making use of existing public infrastructure.
Qatar
National Sports Day is observed annually on the second Tuesday of February and
aims to inspire citizens and residents to prioritise physical activity as part
of their daily routine. The day typically features open fitness sessions,
sporting events, and community-led activities organised by government entities,
private institutions, and local groups.
Public
parks have increasingly become central to community life in Qatar, offering
spaces that combine recreation, accessibility, and environmental design. Many
feature shaded pathways, landscaped gardens, and open green areas suitable for
walking, jogging, and family activities, while waterfront and skyline-facing
parks provide scenic settings for outdoor exercise.
Several
large parks offer extensive facilities, including multipurpose sports courts,
water features, and expansive open areas, while smaller neighbourhood parks
ensure that residents have nearby green spaces for regular physical activity.
Accessibility remains a key focus, with paved walkways, ramps, and inclusive
layouts designed to accommodate people of all ages and abilities.
The
majority of parks are equipped with children’s play zones, outdoor gyms, sports
courts, and dedicated tracks for walking and jogging. Picnic areas, barbecue
facilities, and water features such as fountains and artificial lakes further
enhance their appeal and comfort.
By designating 156 parks for National Sports Day activities, the authorities are reinforcing the role of public green spaces in supporting health, wellbeing, and community engagement, while encouraging people to make physical activity a lasting habit beyond the annual event.
