Doha, Qatar: The Doha International Book Fair, under the directorship of Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, is gearing up for its 34th edition, set to open on May 8. This year promises to be the largest in its history, with participation from 522 publishing houses representing 43 countries. Notably, the State of Palestine will be honored as this year's Guest of Honor, contributing 11 publishing houses to the event.
In addition to the diverse international participation, the fair will see a significant presence from various ministries, government and private institutions, and embassies. A highlight of this year's event will be the launch of the inaugural Professional Literary Exchange Program. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance literary cooperation, facilitate the exchange of publishing rights, and support translation efforts between Qatar and the global literary community.
The fair will also feature the announcement of the Doha International Book Fair Awards, recognizing excellence in categories such as Outstanding Publisher (Local and International), Outstanding Children's Book Publisher (Local and International), Creative Writer, and Young Qatari Writer.
