'35 million would have died if.': Trump's new claim on India-Pakistan conflict

Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that his intervention helped prevent a serious escalation between India and Pakistan during a recent period of heightened tensions.

Speaking during a public address, Trump said the situation could have developed into a large-scale conflict without diplomatic efforts. He added that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had indicated the potential scale of casualties if the crisis had intensified.

The remarks have drawn attention given the sensitive history between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. While Trump described his role as significant, Indian officials have previously maintained that de-escalation was achieved through direct bilateral engagement.
