Doha: Qatar’s Meteorology Department has issued a weather alert today, July 7, 2025, warning of strong northwesterly winds carrying fine dust across the country. The prevailing conditions have significantly reduced horizontal visibility, particularly in southern regions, where visibility dropped to less than 3 kilometers in the early morning hours.
The
alert follows the Department’s satellite observation released on the evening of
July 6, showing a large dust mass moving across the northern Arabian Peninsula
towards Qatar. The sudden onset of dust this morning is attributed to these
strong winds, known locally as the "Shamal," which are common during
summer and can carry large quantities of fine dust and sand.
In response, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) issued a public advisory through its official X account, urging motorists and commuters to remain cautious. Authorities recommend limiting outdoor activities, especially for those with respiratory conditions, and to drive carefully due to low visibility on the roads.
