Doha: In a joint effort to promote environmental sustainability, LuLu Hypermarket and Doha Municipality observed International Plastic Bag-Free Day on July 3 with a meaningful awareness campaign. The event, held at LuLu Hypermarket’s D-Ring Road branch, underscored both organizations’ commitment to reducing plastic usage and fostering a culture of sustainability in Qatar.
The
campaign forms part of Doha Municipality’s broader initiative to educate the
public on regulations regarding plastic bag use. Senior officials from both the
Municipality and LuLu Hypermarket attended the event, reflecting the strong
collaboration between public and private sectors in advancing Qatar’s
environmental goals.
As
part of the campaign, LuLu Hypermarket distributed reusable bags and
eco-friendly brochures to customers, alongside thoughtful gifts packed in paper
bags for children. The initiative showcased practical alternatives to plastic,
aiming to encourage shoppers to adopt eco-conscious habits in their daily
lives.
In
addition to the awareness drive, LuLu Hypermarket launched a special “Buy 1,
Get 1 Free” promotion on reusable bags to further incentivize customers to move
away from single-use plastics. The campaign also spotlighted the severe
environmental impact of plastic waste, especially its threat to marine life and
its long decomposition time.
Over the years, LuLu Group has introduced several sustainability initiatives, including the use of biodegradable packaging, installation of reverse vending machines, refill stations, and food waste digesters. These efforts align with Qatar National Vision 2030 and reinforce the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
