The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions has nominated Qatar as the Regional Focal Point for the Asia-Pacific Group during the 2025 Conferences of the Parties. The conferences are currently being held in Geneva under the theme "Make Visible the Invisible: sound management of chemicals and waste."

In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) highlighted that this nomination is a testament to international recognition of Qatar's leadership in environmental protection and its commitment to the sustainable management of chemicals and waste. It also signifies global confidence in Qatar's ongoing efforts in this critical field.

In its new role, Qatar will coordinate with countries in the region and the Conventions' Secretariat, in addition to participating in preparatory work and official meetings. Qatar's involvement in this international conference emphasizes its dedication to contributing actively to global efforts for sound environmental governance.
