Doha: Qatar's land transport sector continues to drive national growth, aligning with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. As part of these efforts, the Ministry of Transport highlighted Lusail Bus Depot as the region's first solar-powered bus facility and the world’s largest electric bus depot, according to Guinness World Records.
Located
in Lusail City, the depot spans over 400,000m² and features around 11,000
photovoltaic solar panels generating 4 megawatts of clean energy to power its buildings.
The facility includes bus bays, green spaces, service centers, and substations,
marking a significant leap toward eco-friendly infrastructure.
The
depot is divided into three main zones, housing nearly 500 e-bus parking bays
with 248 electric chargers, staff accommodations for 1,400 people, and a Bus
Rapid Transit (BRT) zone with 24 bays and chargers. A 39,000m² Operations
Control Center manages all bus operations in real-time.
This
project is part of the Public Bus Infrastructure Program, aimed at building a
sustainable and integrated transit system in Qatar. By incorporating electric
buses with metro and tram networks, the Ministry seeks to ensure a cleaner,
efficient, and fully electrified public transportation system nationwide.
