Indian student found dead in California days after reported missing

An Indian student studying in the United States was found dead in California nearly a week after he was reported missing, officials confirmed.

Saketh Sreenivasaiah, 22, a postgraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, had been missing since February 9. He was pursuing a master’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering.

Local authorities located his body in the Berkeley Hills area following search efforts that involved police and community members. Earlier, his backpack containing personal belongings had reportedly been discovered near Tilden Regional Park.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco expressed condolences to the family and stated that assistance would be provided to facilitate the return of his remains to India.

Officials have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of his death. Investigations are understood to be ongoing.

Sreenivasaiah had completed his undergraduate studies in India before moving to the United States for higher education. News of his death has caused distress among members of the Indian student community.
