Doha: The Ministry of Public Health has advised
people living with diabetes to take necessary precautions if they intend to
fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
In its guidance, the ministry stressed that
fasting can significantly affect blood sugar levels and may lead to
complications if not properly managed. Patients are encouraged to consult their
doctors before beginning the fast to assess whether it is medically safe and to
adjust treatment plans if required.
Health officials highlighted the importance of
monitoring blood glucose levels regularly during fasting hours. Those using
insulin or other diabetes medications should seek professional advice on
adjusting dosages to avoid episodes of low or high blood sugar.
The ministry also recommended maintaining a
balanced diet during non-fasting hours and ensuring adequate hydration.
Patients were advised to break their fast immediately if they experience
symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, excessive sweating or unusual fatigue.
Officials emphasised that individuals with
uncontrolled diabetes or serious complications should prioritise their health
and follow medical advice regarding fasting.
The advisory aims to support diabetic patients in
observing Ramadan safely while minimising health risks.
