Doha, Qatar: The 10th Local Dates Festival, held from July 24 to August 7 at Souq Waqif, concluded with remarkable success, drawing over 90,600 visitors. Organized by the Ministry of Municipality in collaboration with Souq Waqif Management, the event witnessed strong public interest and vibrant participation from 114 local farms across Qatar.
The
festival recorded total date sales of 170,403 kilograms, with the Khalas
variety topping the chart at 75,658 kg, followed by Shishi (33,057 kg), Khneizi
(31,232 kg), and Barhi (18,772 kg). In addition, 12,684 kg of other date types
and 2,057 kg of fruits were sold. Interactive competitions for visitors and
farmers added to the festive atmosphere, fostering community engagement.
Organizers lauded the event's role in supporting local agriculture, promoting sustainable consumption, and preserving Qatar’s agricultural heritage. They emphasized the festival’s importance in enhancing food security, encouraging palm cultivation, and improving the quality and reach of local produce.
