India to offer free e-visas to Filipinos, direct Delhi-Manila flights from October

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced free e-visas for Filipino tourists during the state visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The decision comes in response to the Philippines’ move to grant visa-free entry to Indian nationals. Modi also revealed that efforts are underway to launch direct flights between Delhi and Manila starting October 1, 2025.

President Marcos welcomed India’s reciprocal gesture and expressed optimism about deepening tourism ties. “I thank Prime Minister Modi for introducing a scheme to grant free visas to Filipino tourists. We also look forward to strengthening direct air connectivity with the start of flights this October,” he said. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the launch of the new flight route, aiming to boost regional connectivity.

The two leaders also addressed regional security, with Modi thanking the Philippines for condemning the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He also welcomed the Philippines’ participation in the International Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region. President Marcos conveyed his nation’s solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed strong bilateral cooperation on security matters.

Marking 75 years of diplomatic ties, India and the Philippines elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership. Both nations signed 13 agreements covering defence, digital cooperation, tourism, science and technology, and maritime collaboration. A Statement of Intent was also exchanged between ISRO and the Philippine Space Agency for cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space.
