Doha: Leaders of various expatriate organizations in Qatar came together to emphasize the importance of religious freedom and the right of individuals to practice their faith, describing it as a fundamental pillar of India's creation and existence. Speaking at the ‘Brotherhood Conference’ organized by Pravasi Welfare under the theme ‘Upholding Constitutional Values,’ the leaders paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary and called for unity in safeguarding the democratic and secular fabric of India.
The speakers highlighted that India's foundation
is built on the unity of its diverse population, and not on any singular
ideology or ethnic nationalism. They warned that any attempts to undermine this
pluralistic structure pose a threat to the very existence of India as a
sovereign, democratic republic. Respect for diversity and constitutional
protections, they noted, are crucial elements that define the Indian identity
and uphold national integrity.
Criticism was also directed at the Waqf Amendment
Act, which, according to the speakers, aims to weaken the rights of minority
communities by transferring control of Waqf properties to the government. They
expressed concern that such moves could erode the financial independence of
religious minorities and undermine the constitutional commitment to social
justice. The leaders urged expatriates to stay united and committed to
Ambedkar’s vision of equality and justice.
The event was inaugurated by Pravasi Welfare State
President R Chandramohan. key figures such as Incas Vice President Tajudheen,
KMCC Vice President Siddique Vazhakad, One India President Shaji Francis, Ayub
Khan Poonthura, and Zainuddin Cheruvannur addressed the gathering. Pravasi
Welfare General Secretary Shafi Moozhikkal welcomed the participants, and
Secretary Rabeeh Zaman delivered the vote of thanks.
