Russia warns U.S. against Iran strikes, cites nuclear catastrophe risk

Russia has strongly warned the United States against launching any military strikes on Iran, saying such action could lead to severe instability in the Middle East and even trigger a nuclear catastrophe. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the situation is already critical and urged Washington to avoid direct involvement.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Ryabkov criticized any speculation about a U.S. attack on Iran, calling it a move that would "radically destabilize" the region. Moscow, which signed a strategic pact with Tehran earlier this year, maintains close ties with Iran but has no military obligation under the agreement.

Russia also condemned recent Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warning that the world is “millimetres from catastrophe.” She cited confirmed damage reported by the UN nuclear watchdog and criticized the lack of global concern.

President Vladimir Putin has offered to mediate in the Israel-Iran conflict, though the offer has not been accepted. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering military options, including joining Israeli strikes—a move Moscow says would only worsen an already dangerous situation.
