US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he will decide within the next two weeks whether to launch a military strike on Iran, citing a “substantial” chance of upcoming negotiations. The announcement comes as Israel and Iran exchange fire for the seventh consecutive day, escalating tensions in the region.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, speaking at a briefing, read a statement from Trump noting ongoing speculation about possible US involvement. Trump indicated that the decision hinges on whether talks with Iran materialize. While he claimed Iran had shown interest in negotiations, Tehran has denied any intent to send officials to the White House.

Despite reports of continued backchannel communication, Leavitt offered no confirmation about potential talks in Geneva involving Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff. Trump has held multiple high-level meetings in the Situation Room this week, maintaining ambiguity by saying, “I may do it, I may not do it,” regarding a possible strike on Iran.
