MoPH urges vaccinations for Umrah travellers to ensure safe and healthy journey

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has urged all citizens and residents planning to travel to the Holy Sites for Umrah to receive the required vaccinations in advance to ensure a safe and healthy journey.

The Ministry emphasised that the meningococcal meningitis vaccine and the seasonal influenza vaccine are among the most important preventive measures for pilgrims. These vaccines play a crucial role in protecting individuals from infectious diseases and significantly reduce the risk of serious health complications that may arise due to exposure during Umrah and visits to the Holy Sites.

MoPH highlighted that individuals at higher risk of health complications - including senior citizens, people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women and children - should visit their registered health centres early for a medical check-up. This will help confirm their fitness to travel and enable them to receive appropriate medical advice to minimise infection risks, especially during the busy Umrah season in Ramadan.

The Ministry also underscored the importance of adhering to preventive guidelines while performing the rituals. Pilgrims are advised to maintain good personal hygiene, wear face masks in crowded areas, and strictly follow medical guidance during their stay and movement in densely populated places.

MoPH further noted that all recommended vaccinations are available free of charge at health centres operated by the Primary Health Care Corporation for registered individuals. The Ministry encouraged those intending to travel to obtain their vaccinations as early as possible to ensure full immunity before departure.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that pilgrims can perform Umrah safely and in good health.
