The
Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with the Public Works Authority
(Ashghal), has launched a national project to rehabilitate and upgrade the
infrastructure of 18 public beaches across Qatar. Director of Projects Management
and Development Abdulaziz al-Rumaihi announced that the first phase includes
major developments at eight beaches, such as Simaisma, Al Wakra, Sealine, Al
Farkia, and Al Ghariyah, aiming to improve quality of life and boost domestic
tourism.
Al-Rumaihi
highlighted that the beach upgrades will feature new services based on visitor
needs, including 200 wooden umbrellas (some designed for people with special
needs), 300 shaded seating areas, children’s play zones with safe sand
flooring, and spaces for restaurants and food carts. In Al Wakra, significant
enhancements have already been made, including beautified entrances, walkways,
and increased greenery for a better visitor experience.
To support the initiative, the Ministry is also rolling out public awareness campaigns to promote family-friendly beach facilities and responsible usage. Measures to ensure visitor safety amid high temperatures include shaded areas, expanded first aid services, and advisories on safe visiting times. Round-the-clock cleaning teams and specialized service contractors have been deployed to maintain hygiene at all public beach sites.
