Doha, Qatar: The Cultural Village Foundation
(Katara) has announced that registration for the 9th edition of the Katara
Prize for Quran Recitation will open tomorrow, Tuesday, and will remain
available until September 30. The competition aims to discover and honor
exceptional talents in Quran recitation, identify the most melodious voices,
and promote mastery of Tajweed rules.
A
selection committee will review all submissions and shortlist 100 participants
for the qualifying rounds, which will take place in Doha. The qualifiers will
compete in 20 televised episodes, with one winner from each episode advancing
to the semifinal stage. From there, finalists will emerge through five
additional episodes, culminating in a grand finale that will determine the top
five winners.
The
total prize pool for the Katara Prize for Quran Recitation is QAR 1.5 million.
The first-place winner will receive QAR 500,000, the second-place winner QAR
400,000, third place QAR 300,000, fourth place QAR 200,000, and fifth place QAR
100,000. In addition, Katara will produce a complete audio recording of the
Holy Quran recited by the first-place winner in its in-house studios.
Organized in partnership with Qatar TV and broadcast during the holy month of Ramadan, the prize continues to inspire younger generations to engage deeply with the Holy Quran. The competition has been officially sponsored by the General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs since its launch in 2017.
