Tehran has claimed the successful launch of its
Fattah-1 hypersonic missile at Israel during the latest wave of its ongoing
Operation Honest Promise 3. The missile strike was part of an overnight
assault, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for “no
mercy” toward Israelis. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated
that the 11th wave of attacks targeted the occupied territories using Fattah-1
missiles, asserting that Iranian forces now have full control over the region's
airspace.
This marks the first confirmed use of the Fattah-1 hypersonic missile in the current conflict, although similar missiles were used in a prior offensive in October 2024. The Fattah-1, unveiled in 2023, is Iran’s first hypersonic weapon and is designed to penetrate advanced missile defence systems such as Israel's Iron Dome and Arrow. Capable of speeds up to 17,900 km/h, it carries a 200 kg warhead and features a hypersonic glide vehicle that enables it to change direction mid-flight, making interception extremely difficult.
The escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran have raised global concerns, as both nations continue their large-scale strikes. Israel, which initiated the current round of attacks by targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites last Friday, claims to have killed top Iranian commanders including Ali Shadmani and Gholam Ali Rashid. Civilian casualties have been reported in both countries, prompting several foreign governments to begin emergency evacuations of their citizens.
