Qatar reaffirms support for Palestine at UN humanitarian affairs segment, urges global action against Israeli aggression

The State of Qatar has strongly reiterated its condemnation of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in  Gaza, holding Israel accountable for ongoing acts of aggression, genocide, and systematic violations of international law. The statement was delivered by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, HE Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during the 2025 Humanitarian Affairs Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) general debate.

Dr. Al Muftah described the situation in Gaza—marked by blockade, starvation, forced displacement, and attacks on aid distribution points—as a "stain on the conscience of humanity," calling for immediate and decisive international intervention.

She urged the global community to go beyond condemnation and fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities by pressuring Israel to halt its aggression, uphold international law and UN resolutions, facilitate continuous humanitarian access, and support a just two-state solution based on pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.

Dr. Al Muftah warned of the growing disregard for international humanitarian law and the deepening culture of impunity, stating that the failure to hold perpetrators accountable contradicts the foundational principles of the Geneva Conventions signed 76 years ago.

Highlighting Qatar’s commitment to humanitarian causes, Dr. Al Muftah noted that the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has provided over $1.9 billion in aid since 2002, supporting various sectors worldwide. She emphasized Qatar’s prioritization of education through initiatives like the Education Above All Foundation, which has reached over 19 million out-of-school children in more than 60 countries.

She also praised the role of Silatech in creating employment opportunities for youth and referenced the QFFD’s Women in Conflict Zones initiative, launched in 2022 to empower women and girls in crisis regions to become agents of peace and positive change.

In conclusion, Dr. Al Muftah highlighted Qatar’s successful efforts in mediation and conflict resolution, underlining the country’s active role in facilitating peace and stability based on justice and international legal principles.
