Noida residents approach Allahabad high court over plan to convert park into temple

Uttar Pradesh: A group of residents from Sector 15A in Noida has moved the Allahabad High Court against a proposal to convert a 40-year-old public park into a temple.

The petitioners argue that the land has long been designated as a green area and serves as an important recreational space for the community. They contend that any change in land use must follow due legal procedure, including necessary approvals and environmental clearances.

Residents have expressed concern that the proposed conversion would affect local greenery and disrupt a space widely used by children, elderly people and families. According to the petition, the park is home to several mature trees and functions as one of the few open spaces in the locality.

The issue reportedly escalated after a signboard indicating a religious project was placed at the site. While some residents support the plan, others oppose altering the park’s status, leading to divisions within the neighbourhood.

The High Court is expected to examine the matter, with residents seeking protection of the park until a legal decision is reached.
